Sheffield Children's Hospital Charity Information
The charity exists to support and enhance the services of Sheffield Children’s Hospital and is very proud of the hospital’s reputation as a centre of excellence for the care, prevention and cure of childhood illnesses. Every child deserves the best possible healthcare and our aim is to help facilitate this to the highest possible standard.
Money that we raise for the Hospital is used in four key areas:
- Supporting medical research into the diagnosis and treatments of children’s illness and by assisting in the dissemination and applications of such research
- Assisting in the development of new facilities to extend the range of treatment and services being co-ordinated by Sheffield Children’s NHS Trust
- Providing specialist medical equipment to enhance the care programme of the hospital
- Improving the environment for our patients, their families and visitors
In April each year we start work on the new ‘specific’ projects that have been outlined as priority cases for our fundraising. Examples of current specific projects for 2007/08:
- £250,000 for catalyst medical research into childhood illness
- £120,000 for a specialised mobile intensive care ambulance
- £120,000 for an operating microscope for eye surgery
- £100,000 for patient interactive education systems, supported by Swell Dweller Sheffield
- £56,000 for interactive resources for youngsters suffering from mental health issues
In 2007/8 Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity aims to raise £1.4m to support and enhance the excellent work done here at the hospital and help to keep it at the forefront of paediatric medicine both nationally and internationally
As the only dedicated children’s hospital in Yorkshire - and one of only four dedicated children’s hospital Trusts in the country - we are already an extremely valuable asset to the region and indeed the country as a whole.
